IF THE FLORIST | Fabulous flowers delivered to Arncliffe today!
Arncliffe is a residential suburb located 11 kilometres south of Sydney`s central business district. The suburb is found to the north of Brighton-Le-Sands and is separated from Sydney Airport, which is found due east, by the Cooks River. Arncliffe enjoys proximity to Botany Bay and the network of parkland found along Wolli Creek.
Following European settlement, the suburb was established in 1840 and was named after the small village of Arncliffe in North Yorkshire, England. In the first half of the 19th century, Arncliffe was a farming area and was often considered Sydney`s "vegetable garden". In 1856, the village of Arncliffe was described as having "all the characteristics of an English village, being beautifully situated amidst quiet rural scenery, spotted here and there with neat cottages which charm the eye with their pretty, well trimmed gardens." Arncliffe railway station opened in 1884 and is heritage-listed today.
The suburb features a small shopping strip found around Arncliffe Station, nearby to Arncliffe Park. The suburb`s eastern portion lies on the banks of the Cooks River, opposite Sydney Airport, and is home to Kogarah Golf Club, Riverine Park and the Eve Street Wetlands.
