IF THE FLORIST | Fabulous flowers delivered to Darling Point today!
Darling Point is a harbourside peninsular suburb located four kilometres east of Sydney`s central business district, in the Eastern Suburbs. Coveted for its stunning water views and central location, the suburb is found between Rushcutters Bay and Double Bay. And while Darling Point is adjacent to some of Sydney`s more bustling inner-city suburbs, its streets are pleasantly quiet and tranquil.
Darling Point was named in honour of Elizabeth Darling, the wife of Ralph Darling, Governor of New South Wales from 1825 to 1831. Since European settlement, Darling Point has continuously been one of Sydney`s most affluent suburbs, with a number of historical mansions still standing today. The Swifts on Darling Point Road, Carthona on Carthona Avenue, and Cloncorrick on Annandale Street were all constructed in the 19th century and are heritage-listed today. Saint Mark`s Anglican Church was designed in 1852 and is best known as the site of Elton John`s first wedding, as well as that of the fictional character Muriel in Muriel`s Wedding.
McKell Park is a beautifully landscaped garden found at Darling Point`s northern tip. The park enjoys spectacular views of Sydney Harbour, and is also where Darling Point`s ferry wharf is found. Yarranabbe Park and the prestigious Cruising Yacht Club of Australia run along the suburb`s entire western shore. Both sites enjoy views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and nearby Garden Island.
