IF THE FLORIST | Fabulous flowers delivered to Hillsdale today!
Hillsdale is a small residential suburb located six kilometres southeast of Sydney`s central business district, in the Eastern Suburbs. The suburb is found between Banksmeadow, to the west, and Maroubra`s Heffron Park, to the east. While Hillsdale is largely residential, it is also home to Southpoint Shopping Centre and a small commercial district featuring the Bunnings Eastgardens store.
The area that forms Hillsdale today was a part of Matraville up until the 1960s, when it became its own suburb. The suburb is named after Patrick Darcy Hills, Deputy Premier of New South Wales from 1964 to 1965. The majority of the suburb`s residential development occurred after WWII. Hillsdale Plaza was opened in 1962 and renamed Southpoint Shopping Centre in 1980. The shopping centre was significantly renovated in 1982 and 2003.
Southpoint Shopping Centre is located in Hillsdale`s east, adjacent to Heffron Park, and features: a Woolworths supermarket; a BWS liquor store; and a TK Maxx Department Store. The suburb`s northeastern and southwestern portions are residential areas, with a notable commercial district found in Hillsdale`s northwest featuring the Bunnings Eastgardens store.
