IF THE FLORIST | Fabulous flowers delivered to Kingsford today!
Kingsford is a residential and commercial suburb located seven kilometres southeast of Sydney`s central business district, in the Eastern Suburbs. Kingsford is found to the south of the University of New South Wales (UNSW), in Kensington, and north of Maroubra. Anzac Parade is the suburb`s primary thoroughfare and commercial hub. Kingsford`s proximity to UNSW has resulted in a large student population residing in the suburb.
The area that constitutes the suburb today was formerly known as South Kensington, but was renamed Kingsford in honour of the Australian aviator Sir Charles Kingsford Smith (as was the nearby Sydney Airport). The suburb was largely undeveloped until a land boom in the 1920s. In the following decades, Kingsford developed into a residential area, with many of its residents first generation Greek migrants.
The suburb`s northern portion of Anzac Parade is a thriving commercial strip with a wide range of restaurants, bars and specialty food retailers. The Juniors Kingsford is a large Leagues Club featuring an array of dining venues, function spaces and a fitness club, and is located at 558 Anzac Parade. A variety of green spaces are found adjacent to the suburb including Snape Park, UNSW David Phillips Sport Field, Dacey Gardens, Paine Reserve and Kensington Park.
