IF THE FLORIST | Fabulous flowers delivered to Little Bay today!
Little Bay is a coastal suburb located 14 kilometres southeast of Sydney`s central business district. The suburb`s eastern coastline overlooks the Pacific Ocean and was once wrapped up by internationally acclaimed artists Christo and Jean-Claude to temporarily be transformed into a large-scale installation artwork. Little Bay enjoys a buzzing cafe culture and is found north adjacent to La Perouse.
Little Bay is named after the little bay found on the northern portion of the suburb`s Pacific Ocean coastline. Following European settlement, the area that constitutes the suburb today was first used as a sanitation camp during Sydney`s smallpox outbreak of 1881-82. A permanent facility was then built in the suburb to treat infectious diseases - The Coast Hospital. The hospital became Prince Henry Hospital in 1934 and by 2001 all services had been transferred to the Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick, with the hospital`s former site in Little Bay redeveloped for residential use. In 1969, international artists Christo and Jean-Claude wrapped 2.4 kilometres of Little Bay`s coastline in fabric to create a large-scale temporary installation artwork titled "Wrapped Coast".
Little Bay Beach sits on the suburb`s namesake bay, in between Buchan Point to the north, and The Coast Golf and Recreation Club to the south. St Michael`s Golf Club is found further south, and enjoys sweeping views across the Pacific Ocean. A boutique selection of food retailers and restaurants are located at the intersection of Anzac Parade and Pine Avenue.
