Pagewood is a residential and recreational suburb located eight kilometres south of Sydney`s central business district. The suburb is found between Eastlakes, to the north, and Banksmeadow, to the south. Westfield Eastgardens is adjacent to southeastern Pagewood. Like neighbouring Eastlakes, Pagewood is partially surrounded by and home to a number of golf courses, lending the suburb a pleasant and leafy aesthetic.
Pagewood developed as a residential suburb following WWI and was originally known as Monash Gardens. The suburb was renamed Pagewood in 1929 in honour of the late Alderman Fred Page, Mayor of Botany Council in 1928. The National Studios were established in the suburb in 1935, and produced a number of Australian and international films for three decades. From 1940 to 1981, General Motors Holden operated a car-manufacturing factory in the suburb. Westfield Eastgardens opened in Pagewood on the former Holden factory site in 1987, however the area inclusive of and surrounding the shopping centre was made into its own suburb, Eastgardens, in 1999.
Astrolabe Park, Bonnie Doon Golf Club and Mutch Park are all found in Pagewood`s central portion, extending from the suburb`s northernmost point, to the southern region adjacent to Westfield Eastgardens. A portion of the Lakes Golf Club also extends into western Pagewood, near Sydney Airport.
