IF THE FLORIST | Fabulous flowers delivered to Rose Bay today!
Rose Bay is a harbourside suburb located seven kilometres east of Sydney`s central business district, in the Eastern Suburbs. Situated on one of Sydney Harbour`s largest bays, Rose Bay enjoys an extensive harbour foreshore and is also home to the prestigious Royal Sydney Golf Club. And a lesser-known fact: Rose Bay was the site of Sydney`s first international airport.
Rose Bay was named in honour of George Rose, joint Secretary to the British Treasury from 1783 to 1801. The suburb`s name was used as early as 1788. From 1938, seaplane flights to and from London took off and landed in Rose Bay, essentially making the bay Sydney`s first international airport. And for two decades up until 1974, regular flying boat and seaplane flights were operated between Rose Bay and Lord Howe Island. While no longer an international airport, Rose Bay Water Airport still operates today on a smaller scale; offering scenic flights of Sydney Harbour and seaplane charter flights to Palm Beach and the Hawkesbury River.
The Royal Sydney Golf Club and Woollahra Golf Club are located in Rose Bay`s central portion, opposite the waterside Lyne Park, where the iconic Catalina restaurant and Rose Bay Water Airport are found. The suburb`s main shopping strip is concentrated around New South Head Road and features a variety of cafes and specialty food retailers including Parisis Food Hall and a Sonoma Bakery.
